So I decided to get my chest lasered. After doing a lot of research on the internet about laser hair removal, male laser hair removal and the such, I thought it was time to put my money where my mouth is and go for some male chest laser hair removal. Where did I go, I went to Laser Hair Centre in southwest Calgary.
First the good news. Laser Hair Centre did a great job. Gwenn Molnar is an amazing technician, actually she is an RN, who really understands the process. She was pretty blunt with me, laser hair removal on a man’s chest hurts – plain and simple. In fact, as we were going through the process she even mentioned that women’s private parts are not as sensitive as a male’s chest. Throughout the process, she indicated I was doing well, but there was a few times I was really hoping it would be finished.
The bad news, as you probably have already guessed, is that the first treatment on my chest hair was no picnic. It hurt – it actually really fucking hurt. Throughout the procedure I kept thinking, how do so many women and men remove their genital hair and actually stand it. Gwenn informed me that the skin around the genital hair is actually not as sensitive as a man’s chest, which gave me some comfort in thinking that my pain was worth it.
I was happy when the procedure was completed. I left the office with my chest on fire, super red and feeling like – “what the hell did I just do”. For the next couple of days, my chest hurt. When I showered it hurt. It was red. It looked liked somebody flicked thousands of elastic bands on my chest just for fun. I really contemplated – why the fu&k did I do this. After about a week, the redness subsided. The pain went away. And soon my chest felt like it has never felt before – smooth.
The results are actually pretty amazing, laser hair removal on the chest works – it really does. After the first treatment, the results are incredible. However, is their pain? Yes there is. Don’t let anybody tell you differently, this hurts. That said, the pain is not unbearable. As I stated it hurts and you wish it would stop, but you can get through it. Once you do, depending on your skin, like me you may feel like sh&t for a few days and your skin may look like a war zone. In my case, this all went away and the results are really good.
So … if you can tolerate some pain, some discomfort for a few days, and are committed to having a smooth chest, this is a first person opinion, it is worth it. It does work. This is the first treatment. The second treatment is coming in August, so I will keep you posted on the results.
We decided over the weekend to conduct a search on the number of businesses that list “full body” laser hair removal and the prices to get a nose to the toes type service. Many sites will break down all the body parts, so you can build your own pricing package, but we wanted to feature the sites that give a simple, full body laser hair removal price.
By no means is this a complete list, so if you know of a clinic that offers this service, please add it to the comments section. We will continue to add more sites to this list.
Canada
Brazilya Laser (Calgary, Alberta) – price list
Full body – $2499 per session or $9996 for 5-sessions
They offer this service for both men and women
Revita Medispa (London, Ontario) – price list
Full body – $2500 per session
Based on their website we believe this service would be offered to both men and women. They clearly state they do male brazilians ($375 per session) so we have no reason to believe they would not do full male body hair removal.
LightTouch Laser Clinic (Toronto, Oakville, Mississauga) – price list (specials page)
Full body – $999 (although they claim this to be a special, they don’t list their regular price). If somebody knows the regular price, please let us know.
They offer this service for both men and women
Ethos The Spa (London, Ontario) – price list
$2000 per session
They list only women in the full body pricing. On the male side they have a price list for brazilian ($325) compared to female brazilian ($125) so likely full male laser hair removal would be higher in price
Vanish Laser and Beauty (Surrey, BC) – price list
$300 per session for women and $375 per session for men
If anybody has gone to this clinic we would like to hear feedback. Their price list seems incredibly low.
Stars and Rockets (Mississauga) – price list (special page)
$1999 per session (this is a special until the end of April. The site does not list its regular price for this service
On the site they don’t highlight whether this is for men and women, therefore, the price listed for sure is women.
Genesis Laser Renewal (Keswick, Ontario) – price list
$1300 for the first session and $1000 for each follow-up session. Their site claims men and women, but the price list does not explicitly say whether this price is for women only.
United States
Assara Laser Cosmetic Services (New York, NY) – price list
$599 per month for full body laser hair removal. This price is for women
They have a separate section for men, however, they don’t list their prices.
Strawberry Fields Spa & Wellness (Toronto) – price list
$1320 per session for women and $1700 per session for men.
We reviewed this business in another post on getting a male brazilian in Toronto and where frustrated that this business does not list the individual pricing for male brazilians, yet they claim full body on men.
Clearstone Laser Hair Removal (Houston, TX) – price list
Starting at $1300 for full body. Based on their individual price lists, they would offer this service for men and women.
Seasons Aesthetics & Spa (Markam, Ontario) – price list
$999 per session starting price. We believe this price would only be for women as their do not mention any specific men’s services on their price list.
Skin Matters Med Spa (Atlanta, GA) – price list
$1250 per session or package price of $7500 (we think the package price is more than 6 sessions, otherwise you are prepaying the full per session price). Also, we don’t find any reference that their services are for men, so we believe this pricing is women only.
Aesthetic Laser and Skin (Puyallup, WA) – price list
$900 per session or completely unlimited for $8700. We believe this pricing is for women, but they do offer male laser hair removal services.
It is another one of those weekends for the daily deal companies who are offering a host of laser hair removal options for Canadians. For consistent readers of our blog you already know that we do a lot of digging into prices of laser hair removal. It appears this service is gaining in popularity as more and more people look to remove their body hair, so we want to make sure that people are as educated on the pricing of the service. That said, price is only one consideration. You want to make sure the technician is qualified and the business is reputable. For those, we do not cover, so use this blog as a proxy of what you can expect but always do your own research prior to making any commitment to proceed with laser hair removal.
For all the deals below, we will look at the price per underarm session. We find this to be the most component spot listed in the deal sites as well as the price that is most commonly listed on companies websites.
This site does not list their regular prices, so it is pretty easy for them to inflate the price on this deal to make it sound more attractive. However, at $25 per underarm session, we would deem this a good deal.
This site does not list their regular prices. This particular deal is limited to a very small number of body parts, Underarm, bikini, side burns, upper lip, men’s neck and back of men’s neck. If you are a man, this might actually be a good deal, however, if you are a women likely their are only 3 areas that are valid, underarm, bikini and upper lip. If we look specifically at underarm laser hair removal and consider that most deals, including ones we reviewed previously at back in October on Groupon deals, we actually don’t believe this to be a good deal. Typically you will need 6 to 8 sessions to remove the hair in your armpits, so at 6 sessions, this would end up costing you $45.83 per session and at 8 sessions this would cost you $34.37 per session. So unless you have need for the other areas, be cautious of this deal. We would not deem this one to be a good deal.
Specific to the deal, this is a good deal. At $13 per underarm session, this is one of the best we have seen. Definitely worth checking out. Also, for men looking to get their groin area done, this business also provides this service. According to their site the groin area is $290 per session for men and a full brazilian bikini for women is $200. For men, how does this compare, check out our original post Getting a Male Brazilian via Laser Hair Removal in Calgary with Prices, but at $290 this is competitive.
$28.75 per underarm session is a little high for these types of deals. This could be dependent on the market, we can’t imagine in Uxbridge, there are lots of options for laser hair removal.
At $24.50 per deal, in Edmonton, we don’t consider this to be a great deal. It is okay, but not steller. This site lists their regular price list, check it out. In the past we have done a full analysis on full legs in Edmonton via laser hair removal and comparing their regular price of $600 and up for women, they are on the high-side of prices in Edmonton. NOTE: according to their site they also prefer laser hair removal on men’s genitals.
At $17.80 per underarm session, this is a good deal. NOTE: they have their full price list on their site and offer male brazilians and female brazilians. They charge the same for men and women at $199 per session or package of 5 for $796. This is pretty good. We did a complete Canadian analysis of Female Brazilian laser hair removal prices across Canada’s largest cities, Aurora Aesthetics benchmarks extremely well.
At $49.66 per underarm session this is a bad deal when compared to other across the country. This deal actually places underarms as a large area and their regular price is $180. This deal would make sense if you are planning to do your legs, from the fine print appears you can use for lower legs which they claim is $525 per session regular price. Be careful with this deal.
At $13 per underarm session this is a good deal. They have a link to their price list in PDF format, however, at the time of this blog post we could not download to compare to regular price. The deal price, however, is good.
At $29 per session this deal is average. Not spectacular but also not the worst. On their site, they don’t list their regular prices, but what they list as regular price on their Groupon deal page, $750 for 3-sessions is on the high-side. In our opinion we don’t consider this to be a good deal.
At $16.50 per session, this is a good deal. They do offer a price list, however they don’t stipulate whether the services are for men as well as women. $150 for female brazilian via laser is reasonable.
Here is some fun laser hair removal statistics. We looked at Groupon.com and pulled as many laser hair removal deals that we could find on their site. We normalized this down to the smallest body part, the armpit, since most Groupon offers will count that as a 1 session. We excluded all the offers that were based on spa credits, opting instead to only look at the pure laser hair removal offers.
In the end we ended up analyzing:
– 381 deals
– covering 120 markets
– located in 47 states/provinces (we only looked at North America)
– covering deals from July 19, 2009 to February 8, 2011
Here is what we discovered:
– Groupon has sold $32.5M worth of laser hair removal services ($35,544,241 based on what we analyzed)
– Based on the stated regular price, this would have saved consumers over $200M in laser hair removal services
– The $32.5M represents 281,590 units sold and if you equate that to the number of sessions that would mean 1,263,131 total laser hair removal sessions sold
That’s a lot of laser hair removal. If we were to add up the offers from LivingSocial + offers from all the daily deal sites around north america that number would be much larger. I think the bottom line is this, laser hair removal is clearly popular and daily deal sites such as Groupon offer a great way to save some money. We have done numerous posts on Laser Hair Removal Pricing in Canada, check them out.
What was the best/worst offer from Groupon?
Which business in North America, grossly overstated their regular price?
